Where We Work

Learn about our unique approach to tackling health issues through collaboration, innovation, and education

Global Health Alliance is dedicated to improving healthcare access and quality in both local and international communities. Our work spans from the neighborhoods of Minnesota to rural clinics in Somalia, reflecting our commitment to health equity and cultural competence.

Minnesota

GHA’s story begins in the heart of Minnesota, where our founders witnessed firsthand the healthcare disparities affecting immigrant and underserved communities. Recognizing that these local challenges often mirror global issues, we set out to create an organization that could make a difference both at home and abroad.

Minnesota is home to a diverse population with a significant number of immigrants and refugees, particularly from East Africa. This diversity presents unique healthcare challenges, including language barriers, cultural differences, and varying levels of access to healthcare services. GHA focuses on Minnesota because it is a microcosm of the global health disparities we aim to address. By working locally, we can develop culturally competent healthcare models that are directly applicable to similar communities worldwide.

In Minnesota, our team collaborates with local healthcare providers, community organizations, and cultural leaders to tailor our programs to meet the specific needs of the communities we serve. This includes initiatives like diabetes management workshops for the Somali community, mental health support groups for immigrants, and prenatal care education for new mothers. Our local impact is driven by a team of dedicated healthcare professionals and community health workers who understand the cultural nuances and health challenges faced by these communities.

East Africa

East Africa, particularly Somalia, faces significant healthcare challenges due to decades of conflict, instability, and underdevelopment. The region suffers from a critical shortage of medical professionals, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and high rates of maternal and child mortality. GHA’s focus on East Africa stems from the personal experiences of our founding members, many of whom have roots in the region and have witnessed firsthand the dire need for improved healthcare services.

In East Africa, GHA works to strengthen healthcare systems by providing essential medical equipment, training healthcare professionals, and implementing sustainable healthcare models. Our projects include equipping rural clinics with modern medical technology, training midwives and community health workers, and establishing telemedicine programs to connect local doctors with specialists abroad. These efforts are supported by partnerships with international organizations, local governments, and community leaders who share our vision of accessible, quality healthcare for all.
