Global Health Alliance (GHA) Champions recently led a two-day Essential Newborn Care (ENC) Training at Shaafi College. The training focused on equipping the next generation of healthcare workers with practical, life-saving skills to care for newborns.



Participants practiced hands-on skills, including newborn resuscitation, safe delivery support, and immediate postnatal care. These are simple but critical interventions that save lives—especially in communities where newborn deaths are preventable with the right knowledge and tools.



The energy in the classroom was inspiring. Students came ready to learn, practice, and ask questions. GHA Champions guided them through each step, making sure everyone left with confidence in their new skills.



At Global Health Alliance, we believe that building local capacity is the key to stronger healthcare systems. By investing in young healthcare leaders, we are shaping healthier futures for mothers, babies, and families.

GHA Champions Lead Essential Newborn Care Training at Shaafi College

🌍 On August 19, 2025, Global Health Alliance joined partners, humanitarian workers, and community leaders to recognize World Humanitarian Day.



This day is about honoring the courage and sacrifice of people who risk their lives to help others in times of crisis. Around the world, frontline responders and healthcare workers continue to bring relief, save lives, and stand with vulnerable communities when they need it most.



Global Health Alliance stands with them. We are committed to supporting humanitarian efforts, protecting human dignity, and promoting health access for all—no matter the circumstance.



The gathering brought together organizations, advocates, and leaders to show solidarity and strengthen cooperation. It was a reminder that humanitarian work is not about one group—it’s about all of us, working together for a safer and more just world.



💙 On this World Humanitarian Day, we honor those on the frontlines and renew our promise to continue the work of compassion and action.

Global Health Alliance Marks World Humanitarian Day 2025

Global Health Alliance was proud to take part in this year’s Community Baby Shower in Saint Paul. The event brought families, community groups, and local organizations together to support mothers and babies.



At our table, we shared health information, answered questions, and connected families with resources. Our team spent the day talking with parents, learning about their needs, and offering tools that can make a real difference.



This event was about more than handing out flyers—it was about showing up for families. Every mother and child deserves care, support, and a strong start. That’s what Global Health Alliance works for every day, both here at home and around the world.



We’re thankful to the organizers and everyone who came out to celebrate families.



Global Health Alliance will keep pushing for healthier communities and stronger families.

Dr. Yusuf Dirir will present on “From Pregnancy to Delivery: A Clinical Approach to Fetal Respiratory Complications,” focusing on early detection and management of respiratory risks during antenatal care and childbirth.



Dr. Mohamed Amin will explore “Understanding the High Burden of Neonatal Respiratory Challenges in Somalia,” analyzing the contributing factors and limitations within the current health system.



Dr. Abdallah Mohamed Bashir will speak on “Key Interventions to Strengthen Respiratory Support for Newborns,” highlighting evidence-based practices such as oxygen therapy, CPAP, and training needs.

DynaMed Training at Frontier University, Garowe

Global Health Alliance successfully completed Essential Newborn Care training at Bosaso University&#8217;s Garowe campus. Led by our Champions Dr. Muna Abdirazack Jama and Faduma Qasim Farah, the program equipped medical students with critical skills in newborn care, thermal protection, infection prevention, and early breastfeeding support.



Students described the training as transformative, with practical simulations and interactive discussions building their confidence to serve their communities with improved care standards. The hands-on approach strengthened their commitment to quality healthcare delivery.



Dr. Muna and Faduma reflected on the students&#8217; passion and engagement throughout the program. &#8220;This is how we shape the future of healthcare,&#8221; Dr. Muna noted, while Faduma praised the collaborative spirit and strong support from Bosaso University that made the training successful.



We thank Bosaso University for their exceptional partnership and the dedicated students who participated with enthusiasm and determination. Together, we&#8217;re building stronger foundations for maternal and newborn health in Somalia, training the next generation of healthcare providers who will transform care in their communities.

He highlighted the critical importance of providing Somali medical students with access to modern clinical tools like DynaMed, which strengthens evidence-based decision-making and elevates the standard of care they can provide to their communities. This access represents more than just technology—it&#8217;s about ensuring equity in healthcare education and removing barriers that have historically limited opportunities for Somali healthcare professionals.



&#8220;Today, we have witnessed students with vision, knowledge, and immense potential. What they need is the right support and resources,&#8221; Yonis stated. &#8220;Global Health Alliance remains committed to empowering Somali youth to become the future leaders of our country&#8217;s healthcare system.&#8221;



This training embodies GHA&#8217;s mission to build healthcare capacity from within communities rather than imposing external solutions. By ensuring that the next generation of Somali medical professionals has access to the same evidence-based resources available to healthcare providers worldwide, we&#8217;re creating conditions for true healthcare transformation.

Global Health Alliance, through our dedicated Champions Dr. Muna Abdirazack Jama and Faduma Qasim Farah, successfully conducted Essential Newborn Care training for students at Bosaso University. This comprehensive session focused on critical newborn practices including immediate care after birth, thermal protection, early breastfeeding, and infection prevention—skills that directly save lives in the crucial first moments after delivery.



All students actively participated throughout the training, engaging deeply in discussions and practical exercises that demonstrated their strong commitment to improving newborn care in their future healthcare roles. ENC 1&2 Training Conducted by GHA Champions at Bosaso University

Global Health Alliance began its transformative journey by delivering vital medical equipment to Gol-Nugal Maternity Hospital, supported by the generous commitment of the Somali diaspora worldwide and communities within Somalia. This initial investment laid the foundation for our comprehensive approach to healthcare system strengthening.



Since then, GHA has trained over 130 healthcare professionals through international-level programs in Garowe, demonstrating our commitment to building local capacity with global standards of excellence. Our impact has expanded significantly through targeted initiatives: we&#8217;ve empowered 87 female health workers at the University of Bossaso through DynaMed training, supported 35 female students from Puntland State University, reached 55 female health students from Hajji Abdi Institute, and engaged 60 health students from Red Sea University.



These numbers represent more than statistics—they reflect our commitment to centering women&#8217;s leadership in healthcare transformation. By prioritizing the training and empowerment of female healthcare professionals, we&#8217;re investing in those who understand their communities&#8217; needs most intimately and are positioned to create lasting change.



Our approach spans from essential equipment delivery to comprehensive capacity-building, ensuring that healthcare improvements are both immediate and sustainable. Each trained professional becomes a catalyst for change within their community, extending our impact far beyond direct interventions.



From these foundational efforts, GHA continues leading the way in building a healthier Somalia through community-centered solutions, diaspora solidarity, and the recognition that sustainable healthcare transformation must be led by those who live and work within the communities they serve.

Today, we proudly conducted a comprehensive DynaMed training session at Red Sea University in Bosaso City, with over 60 students participating from Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, Nutrition, and Dietetics programs.



This training exemplifies Global Health Alliance&#8217;s commitment to transforming healthcare education by providing Somali students with access to the same evidence-based clinical tools used by healthcare professionals worldwide. By equipping the next generation of healthcare providers with these resources, we&#8217;re building the foundation for improved patient outcomes across Somalia.



The session was honored by the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, university lecturers, and the President of Red Sea University, who all shared inspiring remarks about the critical importance of evidence-based learning in strengthening healthcare knowledge and practice.



The training was expertly organized and facilitated by Yonis Abdulkadir, GHA Country Director, and Media Manager Nasteh Abdisalan Bare, in close collaboration with university administration. Their leadership demonstrates our commitment to building sustainable partnerships that strengthen local healthcare capacity.



A special recorded message from Ikraan Abdulle, CEO of Global Health Alliance, was shared with students, emphasizing the transformative value of this training for Somalia&#8217;s future healthcare workforce. She expressed deep appreciation to the President of Red Sea University and his team for their warm hospitality and collaborative partnership with GHA.
